Can't forget to brag about Jeff

I had to run a few quick errands earlier this evening and since Maja was in bad need of a nap, I left her at home with Jeff.

So... I left a new Daddy alone for the second time ever with a very tired and potentially fussy baby (pretty much a loaded gun!) and he did GREAT! Apparently she melted down while I was gone and he was able to calm her down. He felt so good for being able to do this without needing "the boobs" because lets be honest... we breastfeeding Mommies have got it much easier... Maja calms down the minute I start messing around with my shirt :).
I'm glad he found what works for them.

Yay for Daddy!

New cloth diapers on the way

I'm so excited about this order since it has a few diapers I've never used before and I can't wait to try them out.

More fluffy butt pictures coming soon!

On a totally unrelated note.. she has had her best to date night on Saturday. She went from 7pm to 4am without getting up although she was quite hungry when she woke up. Poor thing! I feel so bad for her when I hear her tummy gurgling when she sleeps.

Go Packs!

Can you tell who dressed her this morning??

Can't leave a new Mommy alone with Baby and a camera...

Just to give you an idea... the first pic in the bunch was taken at 4:22pm... the last at 4:25pm... that's 45 photos in 3 minutes!!
Jeff was about to take Maja on a walk but went to the bathroom so I kept an eye on her outside :). She looked too cute and the camera was just too close to pass this opportunity up!

Anyhow... I got some funny ones. Check out those smiles!!

Funny faces in the stroller

I love this one:

She is pretty strong

It looks like she is about to get crawling...

Quite unhappy with Mom about it!

Swaddling is for sissies...

I love it how she opens her left eye to check things out :).

This is how she always sleeps.

8 things about Maja at 8 weeks old

1. She is definitely a water baby. I can't wait to take her to the pool but we are waiting until she has good control of her head. We will of course have our camera with us :)

2. Blowing bubbles... it can get quite messy but she makes it up with being so adorable. Not the greatest picture but you get the idea

3. She has started to move all around her bassinet when she sleeps... sometimes I'll find her in the most hilarious positions

4. Her new thing is to try to fit her fist in her mouth :)... well not really, she is just trying to suck on something but it's pretty cool. Here's hoping she doesn't find her thumb!

5. Still sleeping great at night and during the day but Mommy needs to start using her crib more often :)

6. Mornings are quite funny to her... she smiles at just about anything. Now getting a smile in the evening is pretty much impossible

7. She is a little butter ball... I don't think any of her under 3 months size clothing fits her

8. She is a tooting machine! now Daddy doesn't have to blame the dogs anymore :)

Time is flying by...

8 weeks old today!

Testing out the BebePod

She looks a little scared doesn't she?

and yes... I know it says "3 months and up"! Don't report me to CPS!

G-Diapers rock!!!

After 4 days Maja finally pooped! It was the most gigantic amount of poop I have seen in my life... and I've been changing diapers for 9 years now. My little girl has put all of those kiddos to shame!

The best part of it... the G-Diaper she was wearing at the time contained ALL OF IT!! it was incredible!

BTW.. I know I'm starting to sound like an advertisement, haha... but I swear I am not getting a commission here... I wish!

More on cloth diapers

Maja showing off some of our other diapers...

1. Here's she is wearing one of her Kissaluvs.

It's a fitted dipaer and is basically a modern version of the old fashioned prefold diaper that your Mom or Grandma used. It's just easier to use and snaps right on.

It does need a waterproof cover and here she is wearing her Thirsties Diaper Cover

Diaper covers don't need to be tossed in the laundry after every use. As long as there's no poop on them, just wipe it off and put it right back on a new fitted diaper.

We also have a Thirsties Fitted diaper but it has velcro instead of snaps and we found those easier to use, plus they don't stick to everything in the laundry :)

2. Here she is wearing some of her AL-In-Ones (AIO). They are exactly what they sound they are... everything in one single diaper. No need for covers or anything else. You use it just like a disposable.

The Dream Eze diaper

The BumGenius 2.0

The Swaddlebees

3. Pocket Diapers- they may or may not need a cover. It depends on what you choose and they have a little opening where you can insert an extra layer of absorbent microfiber or hemp cotton liner. Just like all the other diapers you also have the choice of going with sizes (we did with all the above to use while she was itty bitty) or you can buy One Size ones which is what we have for her now that she is bigger.

Her Blueberry Minky. Spendy but Oh so adorable and by far our most absorbent diaper. We love this one!!

Because it's a One Size diaper it's a little bulkier than the other ones. It comes with 3 different setting to use depending on the child's size.

We also have a few of Mommy's Touch, BumGenius 3.0 and a Waonderoo although I haven't gotten around to taking pics of them yet.

4. Here's what we do for laundry. We have 2 diaper pails... one for cloth and one of wipes and any G-Diaper inserts that don't get flushed. The cloth one has an old pillow case instead of a trash bag and that gets tossed in the laundry with the diapers every time.

Washing all those diapers is extremely easy... if baby is on breastmilk only... toss it all straight into the washer; rinse once and then wash on hot. Put it all in the dryer and that's it!
If baby is on formula or solid foods, the poop doesn't dissolve in the wash so you need to dump it in the toilet. You can either do it at the time of change or right before the wash. You can also use flushable liners that you put in the diaper and then pick it right up with the poop and throw it all in the toilet. Sounds pretty easy although we haven't gotten to that part yet.

Al in all... cloth diapering turned out way easier then we thought. And all the options are just so adorable that I can't resist wanting more. Here's what I'm going to purchase next... it's a diaper cover. How cool?

Our cloth diaper stash

It all looks so colorful in there, doesn't it? The top shelf has all her newborn stuff that she will outgrow in about a month or so but the bottom has all of our One Size diapers that will fit her until she is potty trained.

So far I've spent about $400 on all of it and once she outgrows the little stuff I'll get a few more of those One Size diapers that cost anywhere from $18 to $25 and that will get us through the next couple years plus any future children.

I calculated that a $22 box of disposables would last us about a week so that's $1100/year and $2700 for 2.5 years. Sure prices vary depending on size and brand but no matter what we are still looking at well over $2000 per kid!!

That's quite a bit of savings, plus cloth is so much better for the environment and surprisingly easy to use but that could be a whole other post :)

Her new PJ's

I got this in Canada earlier this year. Isn't it cute?? and BTW it's a 6 months size... granted it seems to run small but still... she is pretty chunky!

The crib isn't just for decoration any more :)

She actually took a nap in there today and here's the proof:

She fell asleep ALL by herself. No help from Mommy!!!

I'm still not ready to kick her out of our bedroom though... I just love bringing her in to bed with us and have her cuddle up to me. But she can nap there during the day :).

And since I'm on the subject of sleeping... she had a great night! She is a pretty good sleeper to begin with and goes from 7:30-8:30pm to about 9am every night and only gets up 2-3 times to eat for a short time. Her longest stretch so far has been 6 hrs but last night she didn't make a peep from 9pm to 5am and then went back to sleep and got up for good at 8:30am (although she had a quick snack at 6:30). She rocks!!!

We have a little book worm on our hands!

We've been reading to Maja since day 1 but it's usually while she nurses so today we got on the floor with her and let her look at the pics.... she went NUTS about it! She cooed and squealed and kicked and wiggled with excitement. It was adorable!

I love Sandra Boynton! Her books are so fun and colorful. No wonder Maja was having a blast... besides she probably remembers most of the stories from when I was reading them to Liam and Chloe before she was born.
We just ordered 5 more from Amazon.

Trying out Daddy's new carrier

First we tried it in the side position but she wasn't so fond of it...

So we put her "belly to belly" and she LOVED it...

It's the Ergo Baby Carrier. Daddy likes it!

Who doesn't love a fluffy butt???

We found another great place for walks...

She is really starting to enjoy these...

You can barely see her in there though :)

There has got to be more people like me out there...

I'm ready for baby #2!(ideally that would be twin boys!) Heck, I was ready before I even left the delivery room :). My Dr came into talk about contraception the day he discharged me and was quite speechless when I told him that's not necessary. What can I say... I had an amazing pregnancy, a great delivery and got the coolest baby out of it! I realize next time around might suck but that's just a risk I'm willing to take :).

I always wanted a small age gap between my kids. No more then 14 months and if that doesn't happen, the plan is to wait for at least 3 years.... After nannying for so many years, I came to the conclusion that the 2 year difference just won't work for me. Of course I managed to get Jeff on boat with this idea too!

The problem here? My sister is getting married Sept. 12th in Spain... So we either have baby #2 before August 12th of next year or we are done for a while because I don't want to have to miss it and don't want to have the baby in the Fall either (too big of an age difference)

I know, I know... you all think I'm nuts!

But seriously, given how ridiculously gorgeous our kid is... it would be a crime not to give the world another one of those soon, right???

Gap casting call

It's that time of the year again... Gap's casting call!

I just entered Maja... her photo should appear in the 0-4 girl gallery within the next 72 hours.

How cute is this...

Her eyes match her stroller!

We took a walk along the Fox River this morning and she stayed quite cozy in there while we froze our butts off :). It was way colder that we expected but that's ok... we still enjoyed ourselves.

And here's one of the 3 of us.... obviously I forgot to set the camera to the right settings but at least its a family photo... we don't have many of those since it's always me or Jeff who takes them :(.

Holy cow! I almost had a heart attack!

I logged into my hospital's account to make sure all of our child birth bills are being payed by the insurance company and the first thing I saw was $20,000+ worth of charges that were denied and saying I was responsible for!!! Yikes! Good thing I wasn't holding Maja cause I would have dropped her!

I called the insurance company and turned out that it's just a mistake and the hospital didn't update their records correctly because half the charges have been paid and the rest is in the process of getting paid but holy crap!!!

Thank God for good insurance because they are paying all of it and the bills are still coming. Maja's NICU stay was $9000 alone and that's just the stay without counting the Dr's or drugs they gave her.

What's the point???

What's the point of babies sleeping through the night when Mommy can't?? if she sleeps, I have to get up to pump anyway! had to do it at 11pm last night and then again at 5am while Maja slept peacefully. I tried getting her up... changed her diaper and tried feeding her but she just took a couple sips, grunted a few times and ignored me so I gave up and pumped :(. Believe me, you only make the mistake of trying to go through the night without pumping or feeding once!
